On December 30th, 2025, the sold out Belk Arena in Davidson, North Carolina, was buzzing with excitement. Davidson College was facing off against Dequesne, but the fans couldn’t help but focus on NBA legend Steph Curry and his family sitting courtside at the game.
This game was a uniquely special one for Davidson College, as Curry was attending because Exit 30 was going to be renamed after him during a halftime ceremony.

To support the official naming, some of Curry’s NBA teammates such as Jimmy Butler, Draymond Green and Steph’s brother Seth who also plays in the NBA, all attended, too.
When halftime hit, with Davidson leading 33-30, Curry stepped onto the court. Town of Davidson and college officials uncovered the sign and Curry gave a speech on what it meant to him.
Community School of Davidson (CSD) Civics teacher, Autumn Michael, who also serves as Mayor Pro Tem on the Davidson Board of Commissioners, stood alongside Curry.
“It was truly so much fun for all of us to be part of the Stephen Curry experience. The ‘Exit 30’ and his number 30 was just too good of a coincidence to pass up in terms of honoring him,” Autumn Michael said. “It is absolutely surreal that we as a college and as a town get to play this small role in the life of someone so very famous–and so very talented. I hope Davidson is always a place that Stephen feels like he can come home to and be himself.”
After the halftime ceremony, the game turned out to be a double overtime thriller. However, the Wildcats could not prevail and ended up losing. Their record dropped to 8-5 on the season.
CSD girls basketball coach Matt Forrest finds it surreal that the exit is now named after Curry.
“I think it’s awesome, because he’s number 30, from Davidson, it’s exit 30, it just makes sense what they did and it’s very cool that we get to honor that,” Coach Forrest said.
The game still turned out to be a memorable one, as Steph Curry again made history in Belk Arena, on the Davidson campus and in the small college town which also plays home to CSD. Every person now sees, as they drive past or get off at Exit 30, the Steph Curry Interchange.
