As the weather starts to get colder, 132 Community School of Davidson (CSD) High School winter athletes are gearing up to return for another great season together. Sports such as basketball, indoor track plus swim and dive are all back and looking to have great seasons while also creating new memories.
On the heels of a fall volleyball state championship and football, soccer and cross-country deep playoff runs, the energy and anticipation is back as the following sports begin their seasons.
Boys Basketball
The junior varsity boys basketball team is back and ready for another great season. The team consists of 11 total players, including eight freshmen and three sophomores, as well as a manager. As for varsity, the team consists of 11 total players, including one freshman, one sophomore, four juniors, and five seniors.
CSD senior guard, Jake Howerton (‘26), is hopeful for the upcoming season and knows what it will take for the basketball team to make a run.
“I think it’s going to take a lot of hard work and practice as well as communication. I also think keeping our relationships outside of basketball and on the court, keeping those together and tight, will be really important,” Jake Howerton said.
Indoor Track
The indoor track team is returning for another great season and consists of 31 runners this season, including 10 freshmen, six sophomores, nine juniors and six seniors.
Swim and Dive
The swim and dive team is making a return after a very successful 2024-2025 campaign. The program consists of 49 total swimmers, with a handful doing both swim and dive. The team has a total of 12 freshmen, 13 sophomores, six juniors and 14 seniors. Out of the 49 total members, seven are divers as well as swimmers.
Cheer
The cheer team returns after the fall and they are ready to cheer on the winter teams. The cheer squad consists of 18 total members and has eight freshmen, two sophomores, six juniors and two seniors.
Girls Basketball
The girls basketball team is back, led by Coach Matt Forrest for another season. The team consists of 12 total players, including four freshmen, six sophomores, two juniors, but no seniors.
Coach Forrest is excited for the season and is hopeful of his young team’s energy. He knows what they are capable of doing.
“I’m excited to watch this young team gain experience and grow with every game. We have a lot of talent and a very bright future. If we keep working hard and stay connected, there’s no limit to the success we can have this season and the years ahead,” Coach Forrest said.
