What is it like being a senior in high school? How does it feel coming to school every day knowing that after a long period of elementary and middle school education your secondary school time is nearing the end? After schools are full of activities and sports and clubs and part-time jobs, not to mention all the pressures and stressors and deadlines that come with planning what will happen in the future. College? University? A job? Balancing everything else that comes with coming in adult?
And what about the social aspect of school being a senior. There is so much that goes on outside the classroom regarding relationships and friends and how it all interconnects. When you walk into school, on the first day, there is energy and hope and possibility, maybe a clean slate, but then things change. It’s not always easy fitting in and feeling like you are a part of high school.
And for some students, senior year means, going to a different school for the first time. That cannot be easy leaving friends and trying to meet new ones let alone, finding a place in the classroom and succeeding alongside teachers and students brand new.
In this “all senior” episode, journalists Mia Kirsch, Callie Hobbs and Kate Saussele (with original music by Reina Henriquez) discuss what it’s like going through their final year of high school.
