Fly, Eagles, Fly! Do they have what it takes to win a second title in five years. What about the 49ers, Bills or Bengals?

Conner Shelton, Sports Editor

This year the NFL playoffs will definitely be an exciting story with the high-flying Philadelphia Eagles, Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs, Josh Allen, Joe Burrow and many other exciting players.

Here is a sports editor’s glimpse at what to look for as the top teams battle for the Vince Lombardi Trophy.

In the Wild Card round, all six games have the potential to be fantastic.

One game that jumps off the page is the Jacksonville Jaguars against the Los Angeles Chargers.

The Jaguars have been soaring as of late as they ended the season on a 5 game-winning streak. Quarterback, Trevor Lawrence, has been amazing over these last few games along with the defense. They got a game-winning fumble recovery against the Titans to win the division.

The Chargers on the other hand come into this matchup as the underdog. They have been on a roll, as well, mostly because of their all-pro running back, Austin Ekler. Ekler ended the regular season with 915 rushing yards to go along with 13 touchdowns which tied him for second in the league. The Chargers look to go into Jacksonville and play spoiler.

After their bye week, the Eagles and Chiefs suit up in the Divisional round. With both teams having extra rest, look for them to come out strong. The Eagles will face the remaining lowest seed in the NFC after the Wild Card week. The Chiefs will face the lowest remaining AFC seed.

The Chiefs have great chances of advancing. They are equipped with star quarterback, Patrick Mahomes, who has been absolutely astonishing this season putting up 5,250 passing yards to go along with 41 touchdown passes. These numbers put Mahomes in a great position to win the second MVP title of his career.

The Eagles on the other hand are led by both their quarterback, Jalen Hurts, and their amazing defense. Jalen Hurts had a crazy season, putting up 3,701 yards as well as 22 touchdowns. These numbers give Jalen a great shot, as well, at winning the MVP.

Over the last couple of years, there have been many intriguing matchups as teams advance. Last year’s Championship games were amazing with Joe Burrow and the Bengals beating Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC to go to the Super Bowl. The NFC Championship was just as good with the Rams defeating the 49ers.

This year’s Championship round could possibly be one of the most exciting in recent memory. The Chiefs, Eagles, Bengals, Bills and 49ers will be favorites to make it to this round. All five of these teams have been the best all year and that should continue. It will be interesting to see which ones come out on top.

Last year the Super Bowl was played in California and the Rams and Bengals matched up in this thriller of a game. The Rams came out on top and won in their own stadium.

As for the Super Bowl this year, the Cardinals have been eliminated so there won’t be a team in their own stadium but look out Glendale, Arizona. This editor thinks the Chiefs will end up playing the Eagles in this primetime matchup.
