If English teacher, Katie Beamer’s, laptop students and teachers love to decorate their school that show their personality and interests.
Everywhere you look at the Community School of Davidson (CSD) High School, there seem to be stickers adorning every surface. From laptops, lampposts and walls to the bumpers of cars stuck in traffic, they are everywhere.
And from small and funny stickers to large and informative stickers, they can be a way to express individuality. A glance at a person’s water bottle. A laptop can tell you where they’ve been or what they do in their free time.
For some, one simple sticker with a deep meaning or message does the trick; for others, if a surface isn’t completely covered, the sticker game isn’t complete.
Below, students and teachers around CSD provide their input about what stickers mean to them and why they collect them.
Senior Tessa Fuller (‘26) has stickers on her Chromebook that she has accumulated through different interactions. “I have a sticker from Mr. Yodice that he gave me because I voted,” Tessa Fuller said. “I have a shark sticker that I got from winning something in AP Lit.” (Akhilan Kumaran)
Along the math hallway, there is a locker, a locker so extraordinarily cat-oriented, that even the handle is ‘perfect.” You can’t find it anywhere else in the school. (Akhilan Kumaran)
Anthony Yodice, American history teacher, loves to express himself with stickers on the door for students to view before entering his classroom. Yodice likes stickers because they can serve as a reminder of his memories. “I like that [stickers are] just a little thing that reminds me of something I did, or someplace I’ve been, or it tells people stuff I like,” Anthony Yodice said. (Akhilan Kumaran)Katie Beamer, English 1 and 2 teacher, loves to decorate her laptop with stickers. “I like stickers that either get my attention or make me laugh,” Katie Beamer said. “So if I find a good one, I will put it on [the laptop].” (Akhilan Kumaran)Some students use stickers to represent parts of their family or their identity. Sophomore Gunnar Chitow (‘28) uses a sticker of the Iceland flag to represent his family connections. “I have family from there,” Gunnar Chitow said. (Akhilan Kumaran)
Stickers are on all sorts of items, from Chromebooks to doors. Even water bottles aren’t spared from the stickers. Some students have multiple water bottles and use stickers to decorate them according to certain themes. (Akhilan Kumaran)
Akhilan Kumaran is a senior who has been at CSD since 8th grade. His time at CSD is the longest he’s been at one school. Akhilan loves to get involved with his school community through tutoring math and other subjects. He also co-founded a club with two other students during his junior year, the Allied Achievers and Comrades Association (AACA). He’s looking forward to leading the club in his final year at CSD.
Outside of school, Akhilan loves watching and analyzing movies. He’s even written his own screenplay. Some of his favorite movies include “Inglorious Basterds,” “Chinatown,” “Aftersun” and “Punch Drunk Love.” He is constantly looking for new movies to watch.
This is Akhilan’s first year as a student journalist. He looks forward to being able to write engaging stories about CSD and the students, and learning and improving his writing skills.

Carter Burch, Opinions Editor, Deputy Sports Editor
Carter Burch is a true CSD freshman. That means this is not only his first year in Journalism, it is also his first year at the school. He had many unenjoyable experiences at other schools, but while being here he has learned many things that will hopefully lead him to some even better years in the future. Carter chose to take Journalism to write in a new way.
Carter says soccer is a big deal. He enjoys playing center back both on the school’s JV team and for the Charlotte Independence Club. His favorite soccer player is Lionel Messi.
In his spare time, Carter enjoys video gaming and going fishing with his father. His video game choices include Rocket League, Minecraft and Fortnite. His favorite types of fish to catch are trout, bluefish and catfish.
