Longtime Community School of Davidson (CSD) teacher Leslie Bragg, known for her positivity and dedication to the community, holds a unique job. In addition to co-leading Student Government with fellow teacher Guppi Berger, she is the school’s first Student Life Leader. Often found at her desk on Learning Street, her job is to listen to the voices of CSD students and implement suggestions on an administrative level, to hear what works and what doesn’t.
What impact does focusing on Student Life have on a school community?
We wanted to be more organized and intentional about it. It just makes sure fewer balls are dropped. It’s a place for students to come and be heard and for us to get the information we need. It’s been a very positive thing for our school.
What has teaching taught you?
I was the number one student in the classroom when I was teaching. I always learned more through the eyes of students.
What are your fondest memories of CSD?
I’m always going to love chaperoning dances and seeing students just dance and have a great time together. Being at the Student Life desk on Learning Street and all the interactions I’m able to have. All of my fondest memories are wrapped up in connecting with students and friends here.
What was your first memory of CSD?
I went on a tour before we had planned for high school. I remember saying, “If CSD ever opens a high school I would want to work there.”
What was the most challenging part of teaching an AP class?
The most challenging part was giving really clear feedback that would be helpful to students and point them in the direction to go.
What was it like raising 3 boys?
I can do anything. It’s the best thing I’ve ever done and also the thing that’s brought me to my knees.
What were you first hired to do?
I was hired when we only had a ninth grade here and we needed someone to do learning lab, so I am the OG learning lab person.
If you could have any superpower, what would it be?
I would fly.
If you could only eat one food for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Ripe peaches.
What is your favorite drink for each season?
In spring I like lime seltzer, in summer I like lemonade, in fall I like apple cider, and in the winter I like hot chocolate.
If you could have any animal in the world as a domesticated pet, what would it be?
A panda bear cub.
What is your favorite way to unwind?
Read.
Do you have a favorite book?
I love anything that Amor Towles has written. He is just phenomenal.
Do you have a favorite movie?
Love Actually.
What are your dream travel destinations?
Iceland. Thailand. Vietnam. Every country in South America. Spain. There are so many.
What is your favorite weather?
Sunny and seventies, with a light breeze.
Do you have a favorite song or music artist?
The Avett Brothers.
Writer’s note:
This questionnaire was designed and conducted to allow Mrs. Bragg to share her memories and learning experiences from her time at CSD. As the Spartan family prepares to say goodbye to a cherished teacher, leader and friend, I’d like to say that, as one of the people who has been in Mrs. Bragg’s classes and witnessed firsthand her dedication, leadership and empathy, CSD will not be the same without her joy and positivity filling the halls. Please wish her a warm goodbye as she retires and leaves behind her legacy of grace and infinite kindness.

I reckon this comment will bounce around unread, so to the universe I’ll say:
Leslie is all that!
She loves high schoolers, loves seeing them grow in confidence and skill, and especially loves seeing them having fun together and being kind to one another!
Her only pet peeve is whiny adults. Young people get a well deserved pass as they are truly dealing with so much. I thank God for those special teachers who find promise in every teenager. CSD has a huge supply of these humans.
I am forever grateful for the people who gave Leslie the opportunity to blossom in the fertile ground of CSD where kindness and professionalism runs deep among the adults and joy and high expectations undergirds the students.
