On February 8, 2025, the Community School of Davidson (CSD) boys and the girls swim and dive teams both competed at the NCHSAA 1A/2A State Swimming Finals in Raleigh, NC.
Twin sister divers, Addison (‘26) and Avery Nardone (‘26) led the way by claiming first and third place.
Both handled the pressure that came with competing against the best in the state.
“Standing on the platform definitely makes my heart race especially when looking down. If I think about the dive too much I’ll psyche myself out so instead I try to think less and let my body do the work,” Avery Nardone (26’) said.
Off the diving board and in the lanes, all six relays qualified for the finals.
“Relays are scored double at competition and is the best way to bring as many athletes to a meet and experience it. In addition, it’s a true team effort,” coach Jeff Patterson said.
The 200 Free Boys relay, consisting of Chase Bedson (28’), Jonas Young (27’), Lucas Dalton (27’) and Jackson Hartsell (‘26) took home 4th place and a medal.
This group also received 4th place and a medal in the 100 Fly.
On the girls team, during the Girls 200 Free Relay, Jadan Rounds (27’), Molly Argenta (26’), Harper Phipps (26’), and Emma Argenta (28’) all finished top 10 for the Spartans.
The boys and girls teams finished top 10 in points and combined to be the number 6 school out of more than 80 schools.
“I think that the swim and dive season was very successful, because the team went to states and many people placed very high at states. One of our girl divers got 1st in states, one of our boys got 4th in butterfly and our relays placed high,” David Colvard (28’) said.
All CSD and put on a strong show at states and kept the swim and dive Spartan spirit strong for another season.
“Representing CSD at states was an honor as my sister and I work hard year-round doing what we love,” Nardone said.
