CSD Spartan Media is happy to introduce our newest series: Student Athlete Spotlight. The purpose of this series is to highlight student athletes from each CSD sport by sharing the roll they play and also how they balance sports, academics, and more.

Athlete: Jackson Wetherbee

Sport: cross country

Grade: Junior

Position: co-captain

CSD Spartan Media: How do you balance being a student athlete?

Jackson Wetherbee: I quit my job so I could do cross country. And I just don’t really hang out a whole lot after practice or after school. I just kind of go home. I do my homework and just make it work.

Media: What roll do you play in your sport?

Wetherbee: I’m a co-captain for the boy’s team, and I lead stretches, and I hype everyone up.

Media: What do you love most about your sport?

Wetherbee: I like the companionship we make. It’s not a super intense sport and it’s not like something that’s super physically demanding, so it’s chill. We kind of just hang out and have fun.

Media: What advice would you give to other student athletes?

Wetherbee: Don’t do anything stupid; you don’t want to get hurt. If you want to keep sports then you have to keep your grades up. You really have to try to find that balance if you really care.
