2025 has been a controversial year so far as social media has expanded and people’s attention spans have shortened. Reading can fix that by reading a little at a time and increasing your stamina.
So pick up a book.
This list was made by Community School of Davidson’s (CSD) ‘25 – ‘26 English teachers. When offered a genre, they recommended some books for students to read.
“Reading is important to escape the world and get lost in another narrative, world and experience,” Allyson Cole said.
So, here is the list. These books are separated into 5 different genres.
Romance
- “The Sun is also a Star” by Nicola Yoon
- “The Fault in our Stars” by John Green
Fantasy
- “The Cruel Prince” by Holly Black
- “Red Queen” by Victoria Aveyard
Non-fiction
- “Just Mercy” by Brian Stevenson
- “I Will Always Write Back” by Caitlin Alifirenka and Liz Welch
Historical fiction
- “The Island of Sea Woman” by Lisa See
- “Daisy Jones and The Six” byTaylor Jenkins Reed
Thriller
- “That’s Not My Name” by Megan Lally
- “Gone Girl” by Gillian Flynn
Sara Behnke, AP Language teacher, chose one book to highlight.
“I really enjoyed that ‘Just Mercy’ was a really serious, important book,” Sara Behnke said. “‘Daisy and the Six’ was a really fun and entertaining book.”
